The Department of Chemical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University has a proud tradition of scholarship and teaching that began with Professor Merrell Fenske, the first Head of our Department and a pioneer in the technology of distillation. Under the guidance of succeeding department heads, we continue to remain highly diversified in each of the major sub-disciplines of chemical engineering. Our current strengths are in biomolecular, computational and nanoscale engineering.

Photo of CH E Alumnus and donor Jack McWhirter. Jack McWhirter has just provided a gift to the Chemical Engineering Department of $105,000.

This is actually the first year of a 10-year pledge, so the total value of this gift will be more than $1,000,000.

It is our pleasure to announce that Bill Joyce has presented the Department with a new gift of $2 million.

The majority of the funding will be used to provide endowed support for a number of William H. Joyce Graduate Student Fellowships, providing more than $50,000 per year in graduate student fellowship support.
