Zydney to serve as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Membrane Science
Department Head Andrew Zydney has been selected to serve as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Membrane Science.
He was formally introduced at the International Congress on Membranes and Membrane Processes held July 12 to 18 in Hawaii. He will begin his new role Jan. 1.
According to Elsevier's Web site, the journal provides a focal point for "membranologists" and a vehicle for publication of significant contributions that advance the science and technology of membrane processes and phenomena.
Zydney has been a Penn State faculty member since 2001 and was named the chemical engineering department head in 2005.

Jack McWhirter Gift
Jack McWhirter has just provided a gift to the Chemical Engineering
Department of $105,000. Jack has actually done this as the first year of a
10-year pledge, so the total value of this gift will be more than
$1,000,000.
The gift will support a series of John R. and Jeanette D. McWhirter
undergraduate scholarships and graduate student fellowships. We will have
some flexibility in the distribution of these funds based on the needs of
the Department, although the goal is to provide a significant amount of
funding for both undergraduates and graduate students each year.
This gift will really make a huge difference in what we can do for our undergraduate
students who need the scholarship support, while at the same time
providing important support for our Department's research programs through
the graduate student fellowships.

It is our pleasure to announce that Bill Joyce has presented the Department with a new gift of $2 million.
The majority of the funding will be used to provide endowed support for a number
of William H. Joyce Graduate Student Fellowships, providing more than $50,000 per year in graduate student fellowship support.
